Easter Event

Hi guys. Thanks for putting on the Easter event, appreciate the time it took to implement it all.

The rewards are good & the wave-based event at ::easter is cool & interactive. I like the mini-quest, and the home looks really nice with all the decorations.

This is not a complaint at all by any means. It's just my opinion, when no-one asked for it :]

My comments/experience:

  • The token farming is not fun or interactive. The combat event is not a viable generator, as even if you kill all of the small bunnies in all the waves completely solo, you only get 200-300 tokens. It is also only once per hour. The best method is thieving stalls at home, aka, clicking on the same pixel every 4.2 seconds for 2 hours and 20 minutes (to afford 1 of everything in the shop).
  • The Golden Chicken de-spawns after 5 or so minutes. I just wasted 30 minutes of my time, twice, doing all the waves on my own, and then the boss just de-spawned at 50% health and I got no rewards either time. It is impossible to do solo because of this timer, and still a close-call in a duo (impossible unless 1 of them is bandos/whip+).
  • The Golden Tree gives you a reinforced egg and golden sap, when it should just give golden sap. This means the event can be completed by just clicking the golden tree and going to a furnace with two gold bars, and the flour/water are not used.
  • The forum post says "Players brave enough to survive its deadly waves". You don't need to pray and take no damage at any point in the event.
  • The forum post says "Players who prefer skilling can also collect Easter Tokens through a variety of skilling activities around the home area.". This is a bit disingenuous. You can either mine one type of rock or thieve a stall.

Here are some suggestions in relation to my points above, most not able to be added this time around, I appreciate that:

  • Drop the Golden Chicken HP from 5000 to 1000, or make the de-spawn timer longer. Honestly, I'd just drop the HP. In an ideal world we'd have 100 players teleporting in to kill it, but alas, we have 1-2.
  • Massively increase the token reward from the Golden Chicken, did I even get 50 for doing it???
  • Increase the frequency of the wave event or allow it to be triggered by players. Maybe a lever or coffer, depositing coins (or tokens, although this is a bit counter-intuitive).
  • ...or a global bunny death counter, 100 kills spawns the event, add some (evil) bunny spawns somewhere.
  • Chance for evil event bunnies to drop a significantly higher amount of tokens (e.g. 50-100).
  • Option to kill the evil event bunnies in a cave or somewhere outside of the event for tokens, because, if you want to PvM the event, you can only do this once an hour.
  • Add the tokens to all PvM and skilling. Players want to progress their account, not waste 2.5 hours of their day off clicking a stall so they don't miss out on the rewards.
  • Rare chance for the golden bunny to drop one of the big-ticket rewards from the shop.
  • As above, add the drop tables for the event mobs to the drop viewer (does this not just happen automatically when a new NPC/table is added???).
  • Add the mystery box to the drop viewer or at least put it in a post. Players want to know what they're spending an hour of their time working towards, especially if it's just a random box.
  • There could be raking patches, trees, fishing spots, bonfires, cooking pots, as a 'variety' of skilling activities to get tokens, if not just more easily adding it as a chance per exp gain (all skills).
  • Tiers of some of the skilling activities, like rocks requiring 30-99 mining, rewarding tokens respective to their requirements.
  • I think it would be cool to have had some other nice-to-haves in the shop like slayer pick scrolls, herb boxes, gem bags, etc.

As is most often the problem with things designed for other people - it hasn't actually been tried out in the way the consumer will actually use/engage with/experience it, other than a quick functionality test. Maybe expand the beta testing team to any willing volunteers, so dev(s) can just dev, and testers can test?

Again, not a complaint, I appreciate that the event was made at all and the time that went into it. Just my grumpy Monday afternoon comments :]

Given that the event is already live, I would focus on changes that can be implemented quickly. I’ve also discussed several of these points with Boemba.

Agreed Points

  • The number of tokens awarded from the Golden Chicken PvM event should be increased to 1,000 tokens. This would mean that completing the event twice (approximately 2.5 hours) would allow players to obtain a reward from the shop. The reward could also scale based on the number of participants.
  • The Golden Chicken should have a 1/5 drop rate for the mystery box.
  • Thieving or mining the home stalls and rocks should have a chance to reward a mystery box, providing a more skiller-friendly option. The XP rates could be increased based on the player's thieving/mining level.
  • The Golden Chicken’s HP should be reduced to approximately 1,000–2,000, taking into account the number of (available) participating players.
  • Bunnies at home should drop Easter tokens.

Additional Suggestion

  • The mystery box could contain +/- 800 Easter tokens as a possible reward, or alternatively, it could be exchanged with the Easter Bunny for a fixed amount of tokens, f.e. 500.

Disagreed Points

  • As this is an Easter event, it should remain accessible and inclusive for players of all levels. Danny’s forum post seemed to be written with a degree of irony, fighting waves of small bunnies is clearly not intended to be dangerous and I found the concept quite funny.
  • I am not in favor of allowing players to gain tokens passively through regular activities such as skilling or solo PvM. While the grind is part of the experience, maximizing community engagement should be the priority. If the event boss is made more rewarding, this should be sufficient, as it is ultimately designed to be a community event. That said, this could be reconsidered for future events, though it would likely require significantly higher reward costs.
  • Adding a mystery box directly to the drop table somewhat diminishes the element of surprise. However, providing a small preview of its contents would have been a nice addition.

Bugs

  • The egg obtained from the Gilded Evergreen Tree appears to be a bug. It was originally intended to only be obtainable in cases where a player had lost their egg.

I get your point, ofcourse it's not meant to be done with only 2 players. Should be at least a bit more. I will build in a check so when it's actively under attack it will not respawn.

I will look into this, it should definitely not be the case but I think I mixed the functionality.. as I did build in something as if you lost one item you wouldn't be stuck.

Sarcasm 😅 but we wanted everyone to be able to do both of the activities. But yes it's only mining and thieving.. next time we'll look into adding more skilling.

As a FYI, tokens will stay in the game but the quest items (sap, reinforced egg, golden egg, ..) will all be removed after Easter.

I do like this idea, but won't be for this Easter event..

I know it hasn't been mentioned properly but yesterday evening there is a chance to receive the bunny ears from the chicken. So this is another reason to do the boss. As this is only receivable through donations or the golden chicken for now.

Good feedback, will keep this in mind for our next event.
As above, add the drop tables for the event mobs to the drop viewer (does this not just happen automatically when a new NPC/table is added???).
This should indeed work.

Totally agree, except for the mystery box drop. Personally I think it does not belong in a drop table.

Thank you for putting the time into writing out these responses! I agree with all your points.

I appreciate yours & the team's openness to criticism and suggestions, it's reassuring.

It's also good to know the tokens will remain in the game.

Looking forward to the next update, cheers!
